Minding Melanoma

Brad doesn't know how to stay still and be quiet. You could bound and gag the guy, cast him far out into the desert, lock the gates to everything and he'd still find his way back to doing something incredible.

For those of you that have been reading all along, you will recognize the name Liam.

For those of you who've only recently found my blog, (by reading about me in "Oxygen's Most Wanted") his name might not be as familiar.

Liam was Brad's best friend. Liam was a bigger than life kinda guy that had many, many, many friends and loved ones.

Liam battled an awful disease called melanoma; otherwise known as skin cancer.

Melanoma isn't sympathetic. It doesn't care. It's invasive.

  • Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer.
  • It can develop anywhere on the body
  • It doesn't discriminate - it doesn't care about your sex, age or race
  • 90% of melanomas are caused by exposure to UV rays from sunlight (also includes radiation from tanning beds)
  • Just one bad sunburn can double your chances of developing melanoma

Go here for more facts. Learn. Get educated. Take care of your body.

What makes me crazy proud is what Brad is doing in Liam's memory. Next Sunday, Brad will be shaking it at 'Strides for Melanoma - Walk for Awareness'.

Bonnie and I have donated. I hate asking anyone for $$$, but if you've got a couple of bucks to spare, think about it. I even have some ideas:

Check in your couch - you're  guaranteed to find some coin, or at least some couch lint...and who doesn't love couch lint?

Walk a busy street, check for some coin. Even if you don't find any, perhaps that pink organ inside you (the heart-shaped one) will thank you. Plus if you happen to come across lungs, you could FedEx them to me. Everyone wins.

Or, you could put on a puppet show. You'll likely rake in tons of dough.
