Pumping Iron 101

Today physio began. My physio schedule is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1PM.

I had an idea of what to expect, as I saw the physio room when I was here for my assessment back in March. It's a room full of treadmills, bikes and weights. Oh, and oxygen hook ups and oxygen saturation monitors - you know, just like a normal gym.

Today was a bit overwhelming. Since Brad is my current support person, it's his responsibility to help me, monitor me, and write down my exercises and oxygen levels. This allowed me to stay in my overwhelmed stupor. However, that momentary lack of critical cognitive functioning will not help me tomorrow when I go back to physio and stand there gaping at everyone like a child on their first day of school.

Thank you for paying attention Brad!

There are a lot of exercises. I'm sure after a bit they'll become second nature and I'll just rip right through them on my way to becoming Ms. Fitness Canada.

I started on the treadmill and then copied every exercise as Physio Lady demonstrated. The half squats had me laughing though...how can you be serious when you're in that position??

Check me out on the treadmill:

<-------- My coolness is undeniable.

Part of the workout regime requires the use of dumbbells. I started with 5lbs...exchanged those for 4lbs...then got comfortable with 3lbs. Yup, I have amazing strength. Everyone in the room was in awe. Signed a few autographs. Posed for some pictures. The usual type of thing that happens whenever I exert myself.

Tomorrow Physio Lady is going to throw in the bike. Fantastic. I liked biking....when I was little. Last time I was on a stationary bike was before my ICU days when my friend Lindsay and I would go to the gym. It was not pretty then... I can't imagine it now; my legs hate the bike.

But not more than they hate the elliptical!! Die elliptical, die!!!

We are also on track to renting a wheelchair on a monthly basis. So helpful for those long walks to the hospital and any other days spent exploring the city. It's a good thing we didn't do any exploring tonight (waaaaay too tired for that after my day of pumping iron) as mother nature opened up on this city.

Then this appeared:

*** Luke, Jake and Andrew - your dad and I miss you lots and lots!!!

*** Good luck at your baseball tournament this weekend Jake!!!

  2. Haha, funny! I checked Kijiji and there was nothing there for little $$$. Renting through the Red Cross is pretty cheap and seems to be the way to go for now.
