Is this really happening? "YAY"

Hey Everyone, its Brad :)

It was 11:00 pm Atlantic time when I decided to go to sleep for the night. I just started to get my snooze on, when my phone rang..... ring ring.......ring ring......

ME - ugh.. hello
Jess -"BRAD ITS ME! I GOT THE CALL, I GOT THE CALL, MY LUNGS, MY LUNGS!
ME - " WHAT!!!!! WHAT!!!  ARE YOU SERIOUS??????
Jess - YES, MY LUNGS... I NEED TO GO AND UM I HAVE TO GO AND MY LUNGS AND HOLD ON.... YES MY LUNGS BABE, THEY ARE THERE SO I HAVE TO GO NOW...

She couldn't breathe while she was talking and I am pretty sure she hyperventilated but she got through the conversation.

Ok, here is the scoop. Jess received the call from the transplant centre at 10:20pm Eastern time tonight. We are so excited BUT there is always the chance that it's a dry run. The transplant team has to go check out the lungs and make sure they are in good enough shape to transplant. They are the right size and blood type and they are all hers, so we are PRAYING that these blowers will be healthy and chunky.

At the same time, someone had to lose their life tonight to make this happen. It's very sad and our thoughts and prayers go to out the family. This person and their family chose to give another person a second chance at life. Jessica happens to be the recipient and could be receiving the best gift she will ever receive from someone she will not meet until their lungs enter her body.

We are beyond excited and hopeful that the gift of life has arrived for JESS.

Jess sends her love to everyone and please pray and cross your fingers.....

Until next time.......

  4. This is amazing news!! We are thinking of you and sending lots of prayers and good thoughts your way. It is so unfortunate that someone had to lose their life to save yours but I cannot think of another that will be more grateful for this gift and I know you will continue to be an advocate for organ donation. In the meantime, my fingers are crossed that the new lungs will find a nice happy home with you :) xoxo

  5. I am so happy to hear this news! Jessica has been in my prayers and everyone hopes that this works out well for her. This is the first that I have gotten on her blog but have been keeping in touch a little bit with her Mom & Dad. I will be following more closely from now on as I know that she is a fighter. It must be the Carver/Penney genes that makes her strong, stubborn and determined! Best of luck from your cousin, Beth Penney. :)

  6. Brad - Carman and I were beyond excited at this particular call! Jess was so excited on the way to TGH, she was stutter texting and when I asked if she wanted us to come over she said, "It's ok. I'll be fine. This is nits. Nuts. Can't breathe." Yes, she's working those old crusties for all they're worth!

Last night, someone lost a family member, friend, colleague and all around Buddy. The family of this person has generously agreed with their wish to donate viable organs, that may give others a renewed life. This is a beautiful gift coming from a tragic loss. A gift that, if all goes well, Jess will not take lightly but will spend the rest of her life "givin' er!" as her way a expressing her deep gratitude to her donor. This person didn't die for Jess, or just so she could be transplanted. This person died and just had to give the gift of life - because that was their wish (and their family agreed, which doesn't always happen)! By doing so, they may save 8 lives and have a significant impact on up to 75 others! The ultimate gift...

We are deeply grateful to the donor and their family - and trembling with excitement for Jess that this is the deal she's been waiting for!

Here's to healthy lungs...get ready Brad, there'll be no stopping her!
